Off to Granada

This is our 13th video in the Iberian Peninsula series. We are off to Granada to visit the famous palace and fortress of Alhambra but before we do, we need to enjoy Granada itself. We start this video with a quick visit to Medina Azahara Museum outside of Córdoba. It is a UNESCO site and we recommend a 3 to 4 hour museum & site visit. Unfortunately, we were in a hurry so we missed out on a lot. Next stop for us on our way to Granada was the Antequera Dolmens Archeological Site. This is also a UNESCO site which has megalithic monuments that are at least 5000 years old. In fact these dolmens are the oldest in all of Europe. It was very cool to be able to visit such a location. Upon getting to Granada proper, we participated in a walking tour of the Albaicin neighborhood. We recommend this type of tour for this area because there are lots of narrow, winding streets and with a local guide you will definitely enjoy the stories and experience. In the tour, you will climb through the streets as you get peek a boo views of the Alhambra. Eventually you get to the top, Plaza Mirador San Nicolas, where the views of not only the Alhambra but also the mountains are spectacular. You may also get treated to a spontaneous Flamenco performance if the crowd is in the mood (you will definitely hear guitar music being played). Our tour took us through the older part of the neighborhood where we walked into an actual cave house, yes a house built into a cave. We truly enjoyed everything about this tour, it is definitely within our top three favorite tours for the whole trip. Lot’s of folks make the stop in Granada to visit Alhambra but it is absolutely worth it to stay at least an extra day to enjoy the Albaicin neighborhood. I hope you enjoy the video!
